Italy’s most visited monument has become an icon, by its exceptional architecture, the fame of the gladiators and spectacles, its popularity through the centuries, from its medieval and Christian reuse and the ideological versions that have made it the symbol of an empire and today of the city of Rome and the world.
The Flavian Amphitheatre, more commonly known as the Colosseum, stands in the archaeological heart of Rome and welcomes large numbers of visitors daily, attracted by the fascination of its history and its complex architecture.

The building became known as the Colosseum because of a colossal statue that stood nearby. It was built in the 1st century CE at the behest of the emperors of the Flavian dynasty. Until the end of the ancient period, it was used to present spectacles of great popular appeal, such as animal hunts and gladiatorial games. The building was, and still remains today, a spectacle in itself. It is the largest amphitheatre in the world, capable of presenting surprisingly complex stage machinery, as well as services for spectators.

A symbol of the splendour of the empire, the Amphitheatre has changed its appearance and its function over the centuries, presenting itself as a structured space but open to the Roman community.

Colosseum

The political and civil heart of ancient Rome beats beneath a complex stratification of streets, squares and buildings whose history, excavations and restorations have repeatedly changed its face: an archaeological panorama unique worldwide that includes masterpieces of medieval art.

The Forum was originally covered by a swamp. It was only in the late 7th century BCE that the valley was reclaimed and the Roman Forum began to take shape. It was destined to remain the centre of public life for over a millennium.

The various monuments were built through the centuries: first the buildings for political, religious and commercial activities, then during the 2nd century BCE the civil basilicas, used for judicial activities. Already at the end of the republican age, the ancient Roman Forum had become insufficient to serve as the administrative and representative centre of the city.

The various dynasties of emperors added only prestigious monuments: the Temple of Vespasian and Titus and that of Antoninus Pius and Faustina, dedicated to the memory of the deified emperors, and the monumental Arch of Septimius Severus, built at the western end of the Forum in 203 CE to celebrate the emperor’s victories over the Parthians.

Get ready to have a private, full-day guided tour and submerge yourself in an ancient Rome ambiance!

You'll be picked up from your hotel in an accessible vehicle to the spot of your first visit: The Colosseum! Which is the largest theater in the world. You'll tour the inside of the arena and look at the original arches. Your knowledgeable guide will explain its importance for ancient Rome and other facts.

The Colosseum is wheelchair accessible. It has a ramp entrance, accessible restrooms on-site, and an elevator to reach the second floor, where you can look down at the Colosseum and view the city.

Afterward, you'll travel in a wheelchair-accessible van to the Roman Forum. This ancient marketplace later housed many important buildings of the old Roman government and was influential in Roman social and political life.

At the entrance of the Roman Forum, an elevator is available to take you down to explore the ancient ruins. However, it's important to note that only approximately 20% of the grounds are wheelchair accessible once you reach the lower level, and there are no accessible restrooms on-site. We can arrange an all-terrain Joëlette wheelchair rental for you for an extra charge.

Next, you'll stop by the Arch of Titus, the Arch of Constantine, and the Imperial Palaces, located on the top of Palatine Hill. You'll get up the hill by accessible van, and the floors are paved.

Tickets for people with disabilities and their companions are free of charge if travelers show the disabled certificate/letter of the doctor/car permission disability; otherwise, tickets can be purchased on-site.

At the end of the tour, you'll be driven back to your hotel in an accessible vehicle.

Once inside, be sure to look up and marvel at the ceiling: it holds Michelangelo's spectacular "The Last Judgement" fresco, painted between 1535 and 1541. The tour finishes with a visit to the monumental Basilica of Saint Peter, the largest church in the world, and a stroll through the iconic St. Peter's Square.

Accessible bathrooms can be found in the Vatican Museums, and mobility aids such as lifts on the flights of stairs. There is also a cafe, accessible via a ramp, where you can stop for refreshments. Your guide will be available throughout the tour to answer your questions and assist you if necessary.

The Trevi Fountain is a fountain in the Trevi district in Rome, Italy, designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini and several others. Standing 26.3 metres high and 49.15 metres wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world.</p>

Piazza Navona is a public open space in Rome, Italy. It is built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian, built in the 1st century AD, and follows the form of the open space of the stadium. The ancient Romans went there to watch the agones ("games"), and hence it was known as "Circus Agonalis" ("competition arena"). It is believed that over time the name changed to in avone to navone and eventually to navona.

The Pantheon has represented the greatest expression of the glory of Rome for more than two thousand years. The story of the Pantheon is inseparably tied to the Eternal City. and been its image through the centuries. Built by Agrippa between 25 and 27 BC the Pantheon was a temple dedicated to the twelve Gods and to the living Sovran. Traditionally it is believed that the present building is result of the radical reconstruction by Hadrian between 118 and 125 AD. It is the only ancient Roman building that has remained practically intact through the centuries. In 608 Pope Boniface IV had the remains of many martyrs removed from the Christian catacombs and placed in the Pantheon. Thereafter the temple was officially converted to Christianity and named Saint Maria ad Martyres. The Pantheon was an inspiration to Raphael, one of the greatest architects of the Renaissance, and he requested it be his place of eternal rest.</p>
