Developed in the early 1990s, this mid-mountain gem offers a unique ambiance where the rugged beauty of nature intertwines with an inviting village culture. Visitors can navigate its charming streets effortlessly, with every amenity accessible on foot, complemented by a complimentary gondola that connects to the historic town of Telluride. Mountain Village is home to North America’s only free public gondola, offering a scenic 13-minute ride between Mountain Village and Telluride. One thing to plan around: the gondola closes for maintenance from mid-April to late May and mid-October to mid-November, so check the schedule if your trip falls during shoulder season. Otherwise, it runs daily from 6:30 AM to midnight, with the Mountain Village Bus and Dial-a-Ride available as convenient alternatives.
