You will be picked up from your hotel in an accessible van and driven to the Vatican Museums. Here you will be met by a local guide, who will lead you on a personal Vatican Museums tour. The 6-hour tour will begin with a view of the Dome of Saint Peter’s Basilica from the gardens, and will then move inside the Vatican Museums. You will explore the Tapestry Gallery, which includes displays of tapestries based on drawings by Raphael, before moving onto the Gallery of Geographic Maps, where you will be able to admire globes and maps of Italy dating from the 16th century. The tour will then pass through the room of the Immaculate Conception and into Raphael’s Room, which was intricately decorated with works by Raphael and other artists from his school. The tour also includes a visit to the famous Sistine Chapel to admire the ceiling painstakingly decorated by Michelangelo. Your guide will also talk to you about some of the other frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, including the Stories of Genesis, the Stories of Moses and the portraits of former Popes. Accessible bathrooms can be found in the Vatican Museums, as well as mobility aids such as lifts on the flights of stairs. There is also a cafe, accessible via a ramp, where you can stop for refreshments. Your guide will be available throughout the tour to answer your questions and to assist you, if necessary. Once you have left the Museums, your guide will take you to Saint Peter’s Square for a photo stop in front of the Basilica, and will highlight important features of the exterior of the Basilica to you. At the end of the tour, you will be driven back to your accommodation in an accessible vehicle.
