The tour will begin with a pick-up service from your hotel in an accessible minivan. The minivan has a ramp and staff will be available to assist you with transfers, if necessary. You will then drive out of the city via the Golden Gate Bridge. You will be able to enjoy panoramic views over San Francisco Bay, including Alcatraz Island, and the minivan will pull over for a photo stop so that you can take in the San Franciscan skyline. The minivan will then drive through the winding mountain roads to Muir Woods, a protected landscape nestled in a canyon. Muir Woods is a natural habitat of the coastal redwood tree, the tallest species of tree in the world. The trees can only be found in Northern California and Oregon, due to the thick fog that rolls through the forests in the summer months. You will have about 90 minutes to explore the forest and to discover the flora and fauna that live on the forest floor and up in the leafy canopy. Muir Woods is equipped with wooden boardwalks so wheelchairs can mostly navigate independently, but assistance will be available wherever necessary. The next stop on the tour will be the charming seaside town of Sausalito, which has a 4 km (2.4 miles) waterfront of colorful boutique shops, cafes and restaurants. The pier offers a great view looking towards San Francisco and Angel Island. You will have about 45 minutes to explore the town at your own pace, before getting back in the minivan to return to San Francisco. If you wish, you can also decide to spend a little longer in Sausalito to discover some of the unique souvenirs or local snacks. If you decide to linger, you can catch the accessible ferry back to San Francisco from Sausalito pier. Ferry tickets are available for an extra charge.
