Home of lovely tropical beaches, grand adventures, and wonders of nature. Your local guide will meet you at the airport. They’ll have a sign with your name on it. The guide will assist with your luggage and you’ll take a private adapted van to your hotel in San Jose.
Depending on your hotel, the journey from the airport can take up to 1 hour.

San Jose is not a very accessible city but we have found the tourist attractions that are, with adapted restrooms and easy access, so that you ca...San Jose is not a very accessible city but we have found the tourist attractions that are, with adapted restrooms and easy access, so that you can have a full experience of the city. Your trained guide will also be happy to assist you whenever needed.Your day will start around 9:00, when you will make your way to the city center, in a wheelchair accessible van. From there, you will visit the municipal theater and the gold museum.
Later on, you will have lunch in a restaurant in the city center. A few different restaurants with different types of food will be offered.
In the afternoon, you will visit Zoo Ave, a rescue center for wild animals. This center is an urban park with botanical gardens and hosts more than 125 species of animals including birds, mammals, and reptiles. They have all been rescued, and for various reasons of health or behavior, they cannot be released for reinsertion into their habitat. The park has accessible toilets that are step-free, but some ramps have an inclination of more than 20º, so wheelchair users might require assistance to access them. After this visit, you will make your way back to the hotel.

The day will continue at Vida Campesina, an organic farm where you will take a cooking class. You’ll be introduced to the farm, the produce that grows there, and you’ll make a toast at the end of the experience with sugar cane extract. You’ll prepare a traditional Costa Rican dinner as part of the cooking class at the farm.

Once you arrive at the famous Tarcoles River, you’ll have lunch and then board an accessible boat to discover the river and observe wildlife like crocodiles and a large variety of birds. Both the boat and dock are fully accessible. After the activity you will be transferred to the hotel for the check in.

It is the only transitional forest in the Central Pacific, meaning it boasts very diverse flora and fauna, where species from the dry and humid forests meet. It is also one of the main sites in the country for birdwatching. Carara National Park is the first national park to have a universal access path, where all visitors can experience the forest and get to know local species such as the coffee tree. After your adventure in Carara National Park, you will be picked up for a beautiful drive back to San Jose. This drive will take about 4 hours and you’ll stop on the way for lunch and rest breaks.

Important Information

  • This tour has a maximum capacity of 10 people, with a total of 5 power wheelchair users

  • Rates offered are considered based on a double room occupancy. For single occupancy an extra fee will be required, reach out to our travel expert for details.

  • A 20% deposit is required to secure your spot on the tour ($250 USD is non-refundable). The remaining 80% must be paid 60 days before the trip start date.

  • Group tours will be accepting new travelers until 60 days prior to the start date

  • This tour must have a minimum of 8 participants to take place at the listed price. If the minimum is not reached, the tour still may be able to occur at a higher price.

  • Speak with a travel expert to add extra days or activities after your group tour

Cancellation Policies

  • If you cancel up to 60 days before your check-in day, you will receive a full refund minus the non-refundable $250 USD.
  • Cancellations received between 60 and 45 days prior to the group's arrival 25% penalty
  • Cancellations received between 45 and 30 days before the group's arrival 50% penalty
  • Cancellations received between 30 and 15 days prior to the group's arrival 75% penalty
  • If you cancel within 14 days or less before your check-in day, the total cost of your booking will be due.
  • No show or not used portions of the trip are non-refundable.
  • If a trip or activity cannot take place due to extraordinary circumstances (bad weather, social movements, etc), a full refund cannot be guaranteed. Rest assured, the Wheel the World team will do their best to offer the best arrangements possible.
