Destination Verified is a yearly program that helps destinations showcase their commitment to inclusive travel by evaluating hotels, attractions, restaurants, transportation, and activities through on-site accessibility mapping and training.

We approach accessibility impartially, presenting the data objectively, and empowering travelers to make their own informed decisions. Recognizing the diversity of disabilities, our primary aim is to centralize the information for anyone who needs it.
Certified mappers evaluate accessibility across different travel services: hotels, activities, attractions, restaurants, airports, and transportation. They verify step-free access, bathroom usability, navigation ease, signage, and suitability for different types of disabilities.
To be listed as a Destination Verified, there must be a minimum level of accessibility across the services evaluated. If that minimum is not met, the destination will not be listed publicly, but it will still receive a full accessibility report and dedicated support from our team to identify gaps and improve until it’s ready to go live.
No. Destination Verified works with both large metropolitan areas and smaller regions, including counties, rural areas, and nature destinations committed to accessible travel.
Each Verified Destination has its own landing page on Wheel the World, featuring accessible hotels, attractions, and services. These pages are included in inclusive marketing campaigns and SEO-optimized to ensure travelers discover them easily.
ADA compliance (Americans with Disabilities Act) is a legal minimum in the U.S. Accessibility Verified goes beyond compliance by focusing on real-world usability. Instead of just meeting checklists, we verify what truly matters to travelers with disabilities: step-free access, usable bathrooms, clear signage, and transparent information about barriers.
A trained mapper visits hotels, attractions, and other key services within the destination. Using our Accessibility Mapping System, detailed data is collected and published within 1–2 weeks, accompanied by a private report, benchmark scores, and integration into the Wheel the World marketplace.
We verify accessibility across multiple categories:
- Hotels and resorts
- Activities and attractions
- Restaurants
- Transportation providers
- Convention centers and airports
Yes. Destination teams and local businesses gain access to the Wheel the World Academy, with online training covering physical, visual, hearing, and cognitive accessibility, as well as service best practices for seniors and travelers with disabilities.
Wheel the World collaborates with more than 100 destinations worldwide, including major U.S. cities (New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Portland, Seattle) and regions like Central Oregon and North Alabama.
By providing transparent accessibility information, destinations attract a growing market of seniors and travelers with disabilities. This generates economic impact, improves reputation, and positions the destination as a leader in inclusive travel.
