Overview

On your trip to Boston, make time for a self-guided visit to the Museum of Science, an accessible museum dedicated to scientific discoveries and exploration.

The Museum of Science Boston has many different exhibits, covering different areas of science. There are exhibits dedicated to the human body, fossils, the Arctic, natural habitats in the New England area, mathematics, birds, climate change and more. Many exhibits are interactive, encouraging visitors to explore and use all of their senses. In addition to the exhibits, the Museum of Science also has a mini zoo, and visitors can see behind-the-scenes to learn how staff take care of the animals.

Many live events are hosted at the Museum of Science. The planetarium has talks about space, some of which are designed for children, and there are also live music nights. There are also regular film screenings in the IMAX cinema, which has a domed roof. Visitors can also enjoy a guided walk through the museum gardens.

The Museum of Science Boston is accessible to visitors with disabilities. There is a drop-off point right by the main entrance, and accessible parking bays are located on every floor of the museum garage. There are 10 wheelchairs available to borrow onsite on a first-come, first served basis, with several different types of wheelchair on offer. Several accessible restrooms are located in the building and service animals are welcome.

There are several accommodations for visitors with sensory disabilities. Upon reservation at least 2 weeks in advance, American Sign Language tours and Computer Aided Realtime Transcription tours can be offered, and Assistive Listening Systems with receivers working in main locations within the museum. Captioning, amplified narration and audio description are available for selected films in the IMAX screening room. For visitors with visual impairments, sighted tours can be organized, and there is a document available to download online with a narrative description of the building layout.
